About Dawlish Bowling Club

Welcome To Dawlish Bowling Club

Dawlish Bowling Club is situated in the heart of Dawlish and is an open green which allows public viewing

In the centre of Dawlish is The Lawn; a focal point of the town and seafront The Lawn is dominated by open, well maintained grass and a gentle stream known as The Brook or Dawlish Waters. At the far end of The Lawn you’ll find Dawlish Bowling Club and Bandstand surrounded by a large open space which is perfect for games and relaxing. The surrounding streets are full of amusements, shops and cafés where you can grab a sweet treat or bag of chips to enjoy whilst watching the world go by or a game of bowls

Running the entire length of the park is The Brook, which is planted with wonderful floral displays, and passes under bridges and over weirs as it flows towards the sea. The Brook is also home to many species of ducks and waterfowl as well as several famous black swans which have been residents in Dawlish for many years

Dawlish Bowling Club has been established since 1907

We are very proud of our bowling green, which is one of the best in the Teignbridge area.  It takes a lot of work (and money) to keep it in good condition, but it makes a lovely space in the centre of the town to sit and watch an afternoon’s play

The outdoor season starts around mid April and ends mid September.  During that time we play some 60 - 70 matches against other clubs both during the week and at weekends. In these games bowlers of all abilities are invited to take part and bowls being a social game, most matches are followed by food and a drink from the well stocked bar

During the week there is social bowling, called roll ups, when the game is simply played for fun and is a great time to practice and improve

We also play a number of competitions within the club open to all members and those who like to progress further can also enter all the County and National Competitions. In addition, the men play in the Mid Devon League (MDL) and Ladies play in the South Devon League (SDL)

“It’s a young person’s game that older people can play”

Gone are the days when the game was perceived as a game for the elderly, people of all ages play successfully and thoroughly enjoy it

If you are thinking you would like to come into the game you may appreciate knowing that we are relaxed about our dress code, especially for beginners. Only once a member, and playing in club matches would we ask players to wear our club colours

However, to protect the playing surface, flat soled shoes are a must. Bowls and all other necessary equipment can be provided by the club to set you on your way, with guidance and help from our qualified coach

We host 4 Charity Days during each season and this is a time to have a go by entering a team of 4 bowlers we have music and food with the bar open for refreshments

Our clubhouse dates back to 1924

In summer the club is open for play every day from 10:00 in the morning

Our modern clubhouse facilities including a bar, good sized kitchen and changing rooms, with lockers for full members
